Stark emergency food pantry expands hours
An emergency pantry in Canton has expanded its hours because of the growing number of people facing “food insecurity,” meaning they do not have consistent access to food. The pantry, at 408 Ninth St. SW in the Community Campus of Goodwill, will add 14 hours to its weekly operation starting March 5. That will nearly double access for clients, the Stark County Hunger Task Force said.New hours will be 9:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays; 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; and 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. The pantry takes two clients every 15 minutes. Visitors must check in at the Goodwill reception desk to pick up a time ticket. The hunger task force reports the overall food insecurity rate in Stark County is 17.3 percent and the rate for children is 27.9 percent. The task force said both numbers are higher than national averages. For information, call 330-455-6667 or go to www.starkhunger.org.
